Project / Job Description
Company overview:
All college students deserve the opportunity & access to build a healthy relationship with money. That’s why Neu aims to democratise affordable credit and financial literacy for unserved GenZ college students in the US. Neu’s first product is a unique credit card that is democratic, avoids the debt trap, and gamifies financial literacy.
Done right, credit can help young people get a head start to building a credit history, and healthy money habits. But more than half of college students don’t have a credit card. Neu’s card is accessible to all college students irrespective of their economic background, lack of credit history, lack of cosigner, or several other factors that prevent students from getting approved for a credit card.
Unfortunately, with traditional credit cards, students who can not pay their debts can face continuously mounting debt. For example, after 2 years of late fees, high compounding interest, and other hidden fees, an unpaid debt of $1,000 can cost $2,000. It’s a debt trap.
Neu Card is different. There is never any interest, or late fees. It gives students a credit limit for a simple monthly subscription fee. Given the same unpaid $1,000 over the same period of time, the student’s cost will only be $168. Additionally,Neu does not cancel the card, nor does Neu harass students with stressful collection calls.
Financial literacy is also key to financial wellness but is poor among college students. APR, compounding interest, credit score are some basic concepts that most students don’t understand well. Neu aims to promote financial literacy through incentives and gamification so students have fun and earn while learning important concepts.
Neu is addressing a large problem in a growing market and is uniquely positioned to do this. The founding team has helped build a fintech unicorn in the India market with a similar product. That entity is one of Neu’s largest strategic investors. Neu designed its product based on learnings from their experience as well as in-depth conversations with young college students about what they want and need.
